     He purchased Brougham Hall from a James Bird, and entailed it upon his four nephews in succession.1 He lived at Scales Hall, Cumberland, England.1

     He succeded his cousin Henry Richmond Brougham to Brougham, Scales Hall and Highhead Castle.1 He held the office of Bencher of Gray's Inn.1
     He had two daughters, both of whom died without issue.1
