John Campbell was born on 28 May 1798.1 He was the son of Sir Archibald Campbell of Succoth, 2nd Bt. and Elizabeth Balfour.2 He married Anna Jane Sitwell, daughter of Francis Sitwell and Anne Campbell, on 12 July 1824.1 He died in 1830.1
He was a practising advocate in 1821.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Dumbarton in 1826.2

Sir Ilay Campbell of Succoth, 1st Bt. was born on 23 August 1734.1 He was the son of Archibald Campbell of Succoth and Helen Wallace.2 He married Susan Mary Murray, daughter of Archibald Murray of Murrayfield and Jane Hay, on 13 November 1765.1 He died on 28 March 1823 at age 88.1
He was educated at Edinburgh High School, Edinburgh, Midlothian, ScotlandG.1 He was a practising advocate in 1757.1 He held the office of Solicitor-General [Scotland] in 1783.1 He held the office of Lord Advocate in 1784.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for the Glasgow Burghs [Scotland] between 1784 and 1789.1 He was styled as Lord Succoth [Scottish Law Lord] in 1789.1 He held the office of Lord-President of the Court of Session between 1789 and 1808.1 He was created 1st Baronet Campbell, of Succoth [U.K.] on 17 September 1808.1
