     He held the office of Chief Magistrate of Pitcairn Island between 1945 and 1948.2 He was one of the two oldest men on the island in 1972.1

     Norris Joseph Young was born in 1950 at Pitcairn IslandG.1 He is the son of Henry Hugh Young and Florence Ellen Beck.1
     He was a mechanic.1
     He had 8 children.
     He was the driver of the public tractor and Pitcairn maintenance engineer in 1972, responsible also for the lighting plant. A childhood accident cost him the sight in one eye. After education on the island, he spent nine months in Fiji, and a year and a half in New Zealand acquiring mechanical skills. He spoke often of becoming an auto mechanic, and left the island for New Zealand in late 1972 or early 1973. (Ball: Pitcairn: Children of Mutiny.)1
