Sir John Christopher Malcolm Baynes, 7th Bt. was born on 24 April 1928.1 He is the son of Lt.-Col. Sir Rory Malcolm Stuart Baynes, 6th Bt. and Ethel Audrey Giles.2 He married Shirley Maxwell Dodds, daughter of Robert Allan Dodds, on 2 June 1955.2
Sir John Christopher Malcolm Baynes, 7th Bt. was educated at Sedbergh School, Sedbergh, Cumberland, England.1 He graduated from University of Edinburgh, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland, with a Master of Science (M.Sc.).1 He gained the rank of officer in 1948 in the service of the Cameronians (Scottish Rifles).1 He was educated at Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst, Berkshire, England.1 He fought in the Malayan Campaign between 1950 and 1953, where he was mentioned in despatches.1 He was decorated with the award of Order of the Sword of Sweden (1st class) in 1964.1 He wrote the book Morale, published 1967.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in 1968 in the service of the Queen's Own Highlanders.1 He was commnader of the 1st Battalion, 52nd Lowland Volunteers between 1969 and 1972.1 He wrote the book The Soldier in Modern Society, published 1970.1 He wrote the book The Jacobite Rising of 1715, published 1971.1 He succeeded to the title of 7th Baronet Baynes, of Harefield Place, Middlesex [U.K., 1801] on 29 April 1979.1 He wrote the book Soldiers of Scotland, published 1988.1 He wrote the book The Forgotten Victor, published 1989.1 He wrote the book No Reward But Honour?, published 1991.2 He wrote the book Urquhart of Arnhem, published 1993.2 He wrote the book Far From a Donkey: Life of General Sir Ivor Maxse, published 1995.2 He wrote the book For Love of Justice, published 1997.2 He lived in 2003 at Talwrn Bach, Llanfyllin, Montgomeryshire, Wales.1
