     John Lowther, 1st Viscount Lonsdale was the son of Colonel John Lowther and Elizabeth Bellingham.1 He married Katherine Thynne, daughter of Sir Henry Frederick Thynne, 1st Bt. and Hon. Mary Coventry, on 3 December 1674. He died on 10 July 1700.1
     He succeeded as the 2nd Baronet Lowther, of Lowther, co. Westmorland [N.S., 1638] on 30 November 1675.1 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) in February 1688/89.1 He was created 1st Viscount Lonsdale, co. Westmorland [England] on 28 May 1696.1 He was created 1st Baron Lowther of Lowther, co. Westmorland [England] on 28 May 1696.1 He has an extensive biographical entry in the Dictionary of National Biography.2

     Jane Leigh was the daughter of Woolley Leigh and Elizabeth Hare.1 She married Sir John Lowther, 2nd Bt., son of Sir Christopher Lowther, 1st Bt. and Frances Lancaster.1

     Sir James Lowther, 4th Bt. was born circa 1673.1 He was the son of Sir John Lowther, 2nd Bt. and Jane Leigh.1 He died on 2 January 1755, unmarried.1
     He was educated at Queen's College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Carlisle between 1694 and 1702.1 He was admitted to Middle Temple entitled to practise as a barrister.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Cumberland between 1708 and 1722.1 He held the office of Bencher of Middle Temple.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Appleby between 1723 and 1727.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Cumberland between 1727 and 1755.1 He succeeded as the 4th Baronet Lowther, of Whitehaven [E., 1642] on 2 October 1731.1 He held the office of Vice-Admiral of Cumberland.1 On his death his baronetcy became extinct.1

Sir Christopher Lowther, 3rd Bt.1

     Sir Christopher Lowther, 3rd Bt. was born circa 1666.1 He was the son of Sir John Lowther, 2nd Bt. and Jane Leigh.1 He married, firstly, Jane Nanson, daughter of Reverend Philip Nanson.1 He married, secondly, Hannah Taylor.1 He died on 2 October 1731, without issue.1
     He was educated at Queen's College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG.1 He was admitted to Middle Temple in 1690 entitled to practise as a barrister.1 He succeeded as the 3rd Baronet Lowther, of Whitehaven [E., 1642] circa January 1705/6.1 He was disinherited by his father.1

     Sir William Lowther, 1st Bt. was the son of Sir William Lowther and Catherine Harrison.1 He married Annabella Maynard, daughter of Banastre Maynard, 3rd Baron Maynard and Elizabeth Grey, in 1691.1 He died on 6 March 1728/29.1
     He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Pontefract between 1701 and 1710.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Pontefract between 1715 and 1729.1 He was created 1st Baronet Lowther [Great Britain] on 6 January 1714/15.1 He also had two daughters who died unmarried.1

Annabella Maynard1

Banastre Maynard, 3rd Baron Maynard

     Banastre Maynard, 3rd Baron Maynard was born circa 1642. He was the son of William Maynard, 2nd Baron Maynard and Dorothy Banastre. He married Elizabeth Grey, daughter of Henry Grey, 10th Earl of Kent and Amabel Benn, on 9 November 1665. He died on 3 March 1717/18.
     He succeeded as the 3rd Baronet Maynard [E., 1611] on 3 February 1689. He succeeded as the 3rd Baron Maynard, of Estaines [E., 1628] on 3 February 1688/89. He succeeded as the 3rd Baron Maynard, of Wicklow [I., 1620] on 3 February 1688/89.

     Sir William Lowther, 2nd Bt. was the son of Sir William Lowther, 1st Bt. and Annabella Maynard.1 He married, firstly, Diana Condon, daughter of Thomas Condon, in 1719.1 He married, secondly, Catherine Ramsden, daughter of Sir William Ramsden, 2nd Bt. and Hon. Elizabeth Lowther, on 17 August 1736.1 He died on 22 December 1763, without issue.1
     He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Pontefract between 1729 and 1741.1 He succeeded as the 2nd Baronet Lowther [G.B., 1715] on 6 March 1728/29.1 On his death his baronetcy became extinct.1

Catherine Ramsden1

     Catherine Ramsden was the daughter of Sir William Ramsden, 2nd Bt. and Hon. Elizabeth Lowther.1 She married Sir William Lowther, 2nd Bt., son of Sir William Lowther, 1st Bt. and Annabella Maynard, on 17 August 1736.1 She died on 5 January 1778.1
     From 17 August 1736, her married name became Lowther.2
