George Lyon was born on 28 July 1688. He was the son of George Lyon and Jean Nisbet. He married Elizabeth Wardroper on 21 November 1716. He married Janet Duncan on 16 January 1738. He married Jean Chapeman on 18 February 1747.

Alexander Gordon, 3rd Earl of Huntly was the son of George Gordon, 2nd Earl of Huntly and Lady Elizabeth Hay.1,2 He married by contract, firstly, Lady Jean Stewart, daughter of John Stewart, 1st Earl of Atholl and Margaret Douglas, on 14 October 1474.1 He married, secondly, Elizabeth Gray, daughter of Andrew Gray, 2nd Lord Gray and Janet Keith, after 27 July 1511.3 He died on 21 January 1523/24.1
He was granted Strathavon, Banffshire and the Brae of Lochaber.1 He succeeded to the title of 3rd Earl of Huntly [S., 1445] in June 1501.1 He was invested as a Privy Counsellor (P.C.) [Scotland].1 He fought in the Battle of Flodden on 9 September 1513, where he commanded the Scots left wing.1 He held the office of Member of the Council Regency in 1517.1
