     Robert Vans Agnew of Barnbarroch and Sheuchan was born on 4 March 1817.1 He was the son of Lt.-Col. Patrick Vans Agnew of Barnbarroch and Sheuchan and Catherine Fraser.1 He married Mary Elizabeth Hunter Blair, daughter of Sir David Hunter Blair, 3rd Bt., on 22 April 1852 at St. George's Church, St. George Street, Hanover Square, London, England.1,2 He died on 26 September 1893 at age 76.1
     Robert Vans Agnew of Barnbarroch and Sheuchan held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Wigtownshire between 1873 and 1880.1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.).1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.).1

     Mary Elizabeth Hunter Blair was the daughter of Sir David Hunter Blair, 3rd Bt.1 She married Robert Vans Agnew of Barnbarroch and Sheuchan, son of Lt.-Col. Patrick Vans Agnew of Barnbarroch and Sheuchan and Catherine Fraser, on 22 April 1852 at St. George's Church, St. George Street, Hanover Square, London, England.1,2 She died on 2 August 1870.1
     From 22 April 1852, her married name became Vans Agnew.1

John Vans Agnew of Barnbarroch and Sheuchan was born on 23 August 1859.1 He was the son of Robert Vans Agnew of Barnbarroch and Sheuchan and Mary Elizabeth Hunter Blair.1 He married Ada Sybil Bates, daughter of Robert Bates, on 10 December 1891.1 He died on 7 October 1943 at age 84, without issue.1
     Lt.-Col. John Vans Agnew of Barnbarroch and Sheuchan was educated at Marlborough College, Marlborough, Wiltshire, England.1 He was educated at Royal Military College, Sandhurst, Berkshire, England.1 He fought in the Third Burma War between 1887 and 1888.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the service of the Indian Army.1 He fought in the Boer War between 1900 and 1902.1 He fought in the First World War.1 He was commander of the 22nd Scot Horse Yeomanry.1 He was invested as a Officer, Order of the British Empire (O.B.E.) in 1918.1 He was invested as a Fellow, Royal Geographical Society (F.R.G.S.).1 He gained the title of Baron of Kirkinner.1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.).1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.).1

     Ada Sybil Bates was the daughter of Robert Bates.1 She married Lt.-Col. John Vans Agnew of Barnbarroch and Sheuchan, son of Robert Vans Agnew of Barnbarroch and Sheuchan and Mary Elizabeth Hunter Blair, on 10 December 1891.1 She died in October 1941.1
     From 10 December 1891, her married name became Vans Agnew.1
