     Ernest Douglas Arbuthnot was born on 15 September 1905.1 He was the son of Lt.-Col. Archibald Hugh Arbuthnot and Gertrude Alice Green.1 He married Eveline Mary Morgan, daughter of Harold Morgan, on 15 April 1939.1 He died on 9 June 1984 at age 78.1
     Ernest Douglas Arbuthnot was educated at Blundell's School, Tiverton, Devon, England.1 He was educated at Balliol College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England.1 He fought in the Second World War, as a Political Officer on the Abyssinian Frontier.1
