     Sir James Wilson Agnew was born on 2 October 1815 at Ballyclare, Ireland.1 He was the son of James William Agnew and Ellen Stewart.1 He married, firstly, Louisa Mary Fraser, daughter of Major J. Fraser, on 27 April 1846.1 He married, secondly, Blanche Legge, daughter of William Legge, in 1878.1 He died on 8 November 1901 at age 86 at Hobart, Tasmania, Australia.2,3
     Sir James Wilson Agnew graduated from University of Glasgow, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland, with a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.).1 He was registered as a Member, Royal College of Surgeons (M.R.C.S.).1 He held the office of Premier of Tasmania between 8 March 1886 and 29 March 1887.1,3 He was invested as a Knight Commander, Order of St. Michael and St. George (K.C.M.G.) in 1894.3 He lived at Hobart, Tasmania, Australia.1 He has an extensive biographical entry in the Dictionary of National Biography.3
