     Colonel James Duncan McPherson was born on 16 May 1841.2 He was the son of Maj.-Gen. Sir James Duncan McPherson and Mary Kennedy.2 He married Emily Ann Erskine Adams, daughter of Lt.-Col. Robert Roy Adams and Frances Charlotte Caroline Bellew.1 He died on 19 October 1927 at age 86 at Inverness, Inverness-shire, Scotland.2
     He was commissioned on 19 December 1857 with the rank of Ensign, in the service of the 65th Native Bengal Infantry.2 He fought in the Indian Mutiny.2 He gained the rank of Lieutenant on 11 August 1859.2 He gained the rank of Captain on 19 December 1869 in the 3rd Punjab Cavalry.2 He gained the rank of Major on 19 December 1877.2 He fought in the Second Afghan War between 1878 and 1880, where he was mentioned in dispatches.2 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel on 19 December 1883.2 He gained the rank of December on 19 December 1887.2
