Charles Carnegie, 4th Earl of Southesk was born on 7 April 1661.1 He was the son of Robert Carnegie, 3rd Earl of Southesk and Lady Anne Hamilton.1 A contract for the marriage of Charles Carnegie, 4th Earl of Southesk and Lady Mary Maitland was signed on 15 July 1691.1 He died on 9 August 1699 at age 38.1
He was invested as a Privy Counsellor (P.C.) [Scotland] in 1688.1 He succeeded to the title of 4th Earl of Southesk [S., 1633] on 19 February 1687/88.1 He succeeded to the title of 4th Lord Carnegie of Kinnaird and Leuchars [S., 1633] on 19 February 1687/88.1 He succeeded to the title of 4th Lord Carnegie of Kinnaird [S., 1616] on 19 February 1687/88.1
