Lady Butterfield, who died at York, 19 November, 2004, aged 101, was the widow of Professor Sir Herbert Butterfield, Master of Peterhouse 1955-68, Prof of Modern History at Cambridge, 1944-63, &c. She was Edith Joyce {Pamela} (nee Crawshaw) and married in 1929.
