| I am trying to find out what titles Richard Gower born 1789 Kent, Surrey - died 1824 South Africa had. He immigrated to South Africa as British 1820 Settler with his wife Mary Matilda Harriet Diplock and he was a plumber and glazier however his family had various titles and these were lost after his death. His two son's had a huge fall out with his Will. I have searched books, this site etc. for Gower and I know the Gower family where connected to the right type of people during the Medieval period and I have seen a Richard Gower Esq however this is not him. I am wondering if somehow there was a large family of Gowers and down the line some cousins still had the money and land and my Richards family no longer had this but had done in the past. I am also aware the that Gower is the surname used by The Dukes of Sutherland and it went from being Gower to Leveson-Gower when Thomas Gower married into the family. Any ideas? |
