I have a question though, if someone could be so kind as to answer it.

Prince Carlos Maria Francois di Borbone, Principe di Borbone della Due Sicilie (1870-1949). On this site it gives his Baptised name, Carlo Maria Francesco d'Assisi Pasquale Ferdinando Antonio di Padova Francesco de Paola Alfonso Andrea Avelino Tancredi. Where did [b]Tancredi[/b] come from? Is it a surname or just another name? Does anyone know the reason as to why it is there?

The name Tancredi is just another given name - I have no idea where it came from though.

Tancredi probably originates with either Tancred, Prince of Galilee (1078-1112) or Tancred de Hautville.

Tancred, Prince of Galilee was the son of Odo "The Good" and Emma daughter of Robert Guiscard, Duke of Apulia and Calabria (c1015-1085), himself the son of Tancred de Hautville.

Tancred of Galilee accompanied his uncle Bohemond (son of Robert Guiscard) on the 1st Crusade and is the hero of Tasso's "Gerusalemme liberata".

Yes, I read about the Tancreds of history, very interesting.

I was just curious about the name because my family members who came from Naples, Italy had the surname Tancredi (It got changed when they came to America, of course).

According to my family, my great grandfather's uncle was a close solider to one of the Kings of the Two Sicilies. He was hanged for being a traitor, I believe, during the Unification of Italy.

So, I have been looking to see if there was any connection.

Actually, I am not sure which King it really was or how true the story is, but because of the name, I am assuming it had to be one of them.

Anyway, again, thank you for the help. I shall have to do some more researching.
